When I first started work (many years ago I might add), there were no calculators, no computers and no smart phones. There was a reliance on typewriters, slide rules and yes, we did have telephones. How far we have come in just the space of a few years.
A frequent occurrence nowadays in my life nowadays is groups of young people in a room, smartphone in hand tapping away as they send a text, check-in on Facebook or just browse the internet. Whatever happened to the “Art of Conversation”.
I sometimes wonder what the future holds, is it a world where we never leave the house because we have access to everything we need – we can order almost anything we want with an App. or via websites; or will we spend our days holidaying in the sun whilst technology takes care of our work commitments. Who really knows.
I’ve had to “get with the programme” (look I can even blog) and use technology to my advantage. I wouldn’t know what to do without my smartphone now. It amazes me how I can be the passenger in a car, on a train or on a bus, yet can send an email, search the internet for up to date news or check the score of the latest West Bromwich Albion game. I can talk with somebody too!
Now I’m not an expert in communication but I am pleased to announce that our latest Alliance partner “Mike Blakemore Communications” are experts in this field. I first worked with Mike many years ago when we were both volunteers for Hospital radio and we have both followed each others careers over many intervening years.
